Blood Orange of Sicily IGP

Product description

The Protected Geographic Indication (OGP), recognised for the “Blood Orange of Sicily”, is reserved for all those pigmented fruit which have been cultivated and selected in compliance with all the requirements established in the related production rules.
The IGP certification guaranteed that the blood oranges cultivated in the most dedicated areas of Sicily, in varietal pureness, where the notable temperature variations present in the micro-territory of origin, contribute to making this distinctive citrus fruit. In the depths of the fruit, there is an accumulation of sugars which give it a particular bitter sweet taste on the palate and, above all, the red pigmentation which make it so notably recognizable.
Indeed, the anthocyanins characterize the typical colouring of the flesh, of the juice, and occasionally even the rind. The intensity of the sanguine blotches depends on the production area and the time of the harvest.
