The Mandalate is a particular mandarin which Oranfrizer started to cultivate in the plains of Catania, Sicily, in order to extend the seasons of its range of small and large citrus fruit. This is a triploid hybrid citrus originating from a cross between the Fortune mandarin and the Avana tetraploid mandarin. The Mandalate harvest period is very late (between the end of February and the end of April) . The fruit is therefore available exactly when other small citrus are no longer available commercially. The Mandalate is without pips, has a thin orange rind, the flesh is intense, be that in colour or flavour, and in addition to being very juicy, it also has a high sugar and acidic content.
On the palate, its flavour is fresh tending towards acidic.
Each fruit weighs on average 100 grams.
